Are you passionate about meteorology and atmospheric physics? Do you love our planet and want to help renewable energy sources? We are looking for a talented atmospheric scientist to strengthen our research and development team. A team member who contributes to the development of Whiffle’s atmospheric Large-Eddy Simulation model and can advise our operational staff on wonderfully complex atmospheric matters.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO
You design, test and implement new model features and bring them into production. You analyse atmospheric LES model data, observation data and large-scale NWP and geo-scientific data. For example, you analyze LES skills in complex and mountainous terrain, propose a new radiatively active canopy model, collect offshore met-mast observations and verify LES skill and propose a new lake model for inland water bodies. To achieve this you participate in agile scrum sprints and collaborate in a cross-functional team. And besides you are writing documentation, scientific reports and/or journal publications and you participate in code reviews.
Whiffle is based in Delft the Netherlands since 2016 and founded by professors from the Delft University of Technology! Whiffle is revolutionizing numerical weather prediction by using cutting-edge computing technology to run the world's highest resolution operational weather model. Our Large Eddy Simulation (LES) based weather prediction model delivers benefits in many economic sectors, but our primary focus and the one where we are most compassionate about is the renewable energy sector. It is Whiffle’s mission to make the world's best weather forecasts and to make the world better with this disruptive technology. Sometimes people say it’s not possible, but we are sure it can be done, because we already did!

WHY YOU ARE AWESOME
You are analytical, methodical and you have a naturally curiosity. You have completed a MSc or PhD in Atmospheric Physics or in Meteorology. Of course, you are passionate about analyzing atmospheric data. You know how to develop and test parts of the LES model. You like to work together in a larger R&D team and you want to make a lasting impact in the field of renewable energy and weather forecasting. Lost but not least, it is nice to have experience with FORTRAN, C++ and/or Python.
